3 Ways To Get Your Daily Dose of SPF

Why Use SPF?

One of the most common myths about sun and the damage it causes is that if you can’t see it or feel it, there must not be anything to worry about, right? Wrong. When it comes to the sun and its powerful rays, even on the cloudiest days they are still active and able to burn the skin or increase the chances of developing those annoying sunspots. So why is SPF so important? Sun Protection Factor is the one product that can daily monitor the way UVB and UVA rays effect your skin while protecting you from the harmful effects the sun has on your skin such as contributing to skin cancer, uncomfortable burns, and speeding up signs of aging.

No matter what the weather, it’s best practice to apply a sunscreen to your face, neck and chest area daily to make sure you’re taking all of the proper precautions in protecting yourself. Here are a few easy ways to get your daily dose of SPF that you can incorporate into your morning makeup routine.

Start With Skincare

If you’re someone who has a daily regimen of applying skincare, there are many products that contain SPF in them so you can utilize the most out of what you purchase. If applying just regular sunscreen isn’t something you want to do daily, finding it in a moisturizer or face serum will be extremely helpful in the process of protecting your skin. A general rule to follow is to start with an SPF of 15 and work your way up depending on the tone and overall fairness of your skin.

If you aren’t against applying a regular sunscreen to your face, find one that is thin in texture and fast absorbing. Products such as Proactiv Liquid SPF 15 (a sunscreen only) can be worn alone to prime the skin and can be used on all skin types, and L’Oreal Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition Daily Sunscreen Oil with SPF 30 is a great anti-aging skin treatment for more mature and dry skin types.

Refresh With Makeup

Using foundations, tinted moisturizers, and finishing powders along with your treatment that contain SPF are great ways to incorporate protection into your makeup routine, and they are also portable and easy to reapply no matter where you are or what you’re doing. While tinted moisturizers usually last and don’t need much re-applying, powders can be applied to help cut shine and freshen up your level of SPF protection too.

Caudalie Radiance VinoPerfect Tinted Moisturizer, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, Armani Maestro Glow Foundation, and Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Powder SPF 45 are all great options of foundations and powder that contain SPF.

Full Body Coverage

While your face is exposed all year round, when the weather gets warmer and you start wearing less and going out more, don’t neglect the rest of your body when it comes to daily protection. In my opinion one of the toughest things about finding the perfect sunscreen for your body always comes down to texture, scent, and longevity of the product. You don’t want to have a strong SPF scent that clashes with your super chic fragrance, you don’t want to have a thick and oily cast on skin when it comes to texture, and you most certainly don’t want to have white streaks of sweat running down your arms and legs while trying to attract attention to your perfect outfit.

In my quest for the perfect body sunscreen, I’ve found three formulas that are amazing for every day use that you’ll barely notice you’re wearing. Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion has a yummy scent of coconut and hydrates the skin like a body lotion, with an oil free texture that absorbs immediately, La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Body Milk Melt-in Sunscreen has a light weight texture and no scent for those allergic to fragrance, and Clarins Sun Care High Protection For Beautiful Body dry oil spray leaves arms and legs glowing with the divine organic indonesian nyamplung oil that can also double as a hair treatment.
